Cercidiphyllum japonica

The katsura tree is a graceful deciduous tree native to China and Japan and makes a good ornamental or light shade tree. The tree grows 40-60 ft high and is pyramidal when young. Leaves are are rounded, heart-shaped and purplish when unfolding, then finally bluish-green for the summer. The Katsura tree turns beautiful shades of crimson, orange and yellow in fall. Likes sun, but probably best in light shade. Grows best in moist well-drained soil. Hardy to USDA Zone 5
