Hawthorn, Washington

Crataegus phaenopyrum

The Washington Hawthorn is a tough tree and grows in a variety of soils.  It is a late bloomer, but has pretty white flowers in early June.  The leaves are dark green throughout the summer and turn to a reddish-purple color in the fall.  In the fall it also produces orange/red fruit that is enjoyed by wildlife into the winter. The Washington hawthorn has thorny branches that grow in a round shape with a height and width of 20-25 feet.
