Austrian Pine
Pinus Nigra

Description:  Conifer, evergreen tree, 50-60 ft, densely pyramidal when young. Sun. Prefers moist soil with good drainage, but adaptable. Hardy to USDA Zone 4. Picturesque with age; withstands city conditions; heat and drought tolerant; salt tolerant; easy to transplant. Densely conical when young; broad, flat topped tree with short trunk and low spreading branches as it matures.

Balsam Fir
Abies balsamea

Description:  Balsam fir is one of the most cold-hardy of all firs, but doesn't tolerate heat well. This fir grows from sea-level to about 6,000 feet and reaches heights of 40-60 feet with trunk diameters of about 1.5 feet. Zones 3-6. Needles are fragrant and it's seeds are favored by squirrels and deer.

Colorado Spruce
Picea Pungens

Description:  Conifer, evergreen tree, 30-60 ft tall, dense, narrow to broad pyramid, stiff horizontal branches to the ground, formal in outline. Needles spreading more or less all around the stem, more crowded above, stiff, stout, very prickly, Sun. Prefers rich, moist soil, but very adaptable. More drought tolerant than other spruces. Hardy to USDA Zone 2

Concolor White Fir
Abies Concolor

Description:  Conifer, evergreen, 30-50 ft, conical and branched to base. Leaves bluish green uniform color. Sun. Best in deep, rich, moist, well-drained soil, poor on heavy clay. Withstands heat, drought, and cold. Hardy to USDA Zone 3. Narrow pyramidal; horizontal branches with drooping lower branches.

Metasequoia glyptostroboides

Description:  Native to coastal ranges along the Pacific coast, this tree is a fine landscaping tree when used as a shade tree or border fence. The tree generally ranges from 70-90 feet tall and 15-30 feet wide, but in less favorable and controlled areas will average about 50 feet.

Douglas-Fir
Pseudotsuga menziessii

Description:  Rocky Mountain Douglas Fir grows more slowly than Coast Douglas Fir and is also much more cold tolerant. Douglas Fir is a large tree typically reaching 100 feet in height, but can reach up to 300 feet and 30 feet in diameter. Dark Green, short-needled foliage creates a dense canopy. Zones 4-6.

Engelman Spruce
Picea Engelmannii

Description:  Native to higher elevations in the Rocky and Cascade Mountains, Englemann spruce is a narrow conical to cylindrical evergreen tree with descending branching that grows slowly to 100' tall. It is the most common spruce found in the Rockies and is an important western timber tree. In the central Rockies (Colorado), it is typically found growing from 9000' up to timberline (11000-11500 feet) where it is well adapted to dealing with harsh winds, extreme cold and deep snows. Thin, scaly, reddish-brown bark may have a purplish tinge. Flexible, 4-sided, dark green to blue green needles (to 1" long) on woody pegs. Chestnut brown cones (to 2.5" long) with paper thin scales. Species name honors 19th century St. Louis physician and botanist George Englemann.

Japanese Umbrella Pine
Sciadopitys verticillata

Description:  Native to Japan, the Japanese Umbrella Pine is a very slow grower. Fairly dense in its youth, with age it is more open. Cones appear on older trees. It is a great choice for open ground or containers. Also a good tree for bonsai.

Nordman Fir
Abies nordmanniana

Description:  Best suited for a northern climate the Nordman Fir dislikes hot, dry summers. The tree casts dense shade and is easy to transplant. Flowers are 5 to 6" pinkish brown with blue bloom cones. It makes a very nice christmas tree.
